INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

GFM The Synergy Center has partnerships with WMU, Spring Arbor an KVCC. We help Bachelors and Masters level students in any human services field of students to get hands on experience.  We also have partnered with Everest and KVCC in helping learn technical skills such as Administrative, Clerical and Financial areas. 


Future Internship opportunities available in Education, Music Therapy and Non-Profit and Public Administration, Fund Development internships are also available.


MADISON BRANCH

2nd Year MSW Intern

Spring Arbor University


Education

Madison is LLBSW who graduated from Western Michigan University in 2012 with a double major in Social Work and Gender and Women Studies. Madison currently attends Spring Arbor University Advanced Standing Program for her Master's in Social Work. 


Experience

Madison currently works as a case manager at a local agency serving adults with severe and persistent mental illness. Her expertise lies in the areas of working directly with individuals struggling with diagnoses that range from Schizophrenia, Bipolar, Depressive, Anxiety disorders, Personality disorders, Co-occurring disorders, and various other diagnoses and areas of trauma. 

Specialty

Madison is very passionate about the community she serves, especially about  Social Justice issues, including LGBTQ and gender issues, and issues regarding race and privilege. I believe by working on such issues at a community level, in addition to an individual level, we are able to work toward a more inclusive, supportive and safe space for everyone. 

BUNNY JOHNSON

2nd Year MSW Intern

Western Michigan University


Education

Bunny (pronounced Bonnie) is a 2nd year MSW student at Western Michigan University with an anticipated graduate date of June 2018.

Experience

Her experience includes working with clients/consumers with mental health issues and substance abuse issues for more than three years in my current position as a supervisor at the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission.  She has a passion for serving and loving on people to inspire and motivate them to achieve their goals and to realize that they are valued and have potential for greatness.

Specialty

Bunny's desire is to counsel individuals with mental health and substance abuse issues as well as work with with families. 

FAITH ZANTJER

2nd Year MA Intern

Spring Arbor University


Education

Faith is a graduate of Western Michigan University with a Bachelor Degree in K-8 Education. She is currently working on completing her Master Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a Substance Abuse Certification through Spring Arbor University.


Experience

Faith has experience in providing multicultural counseling for children, adolescents, adults, groups, and couples. She is a strong advocate for women and children.

Specialty

Women’s issues, depression, anxiety, self worth/self-esteem, grief and loss, co-dependency, attachment, domestic violence, crisis, trauma, substance use disorders, marriage and couples, relapse prevention.
