Bunny Johnson, MSW, LLMSW

Bunny has a Master's Degree in Social Work from Western Michigan University.

Experience

Her experience includes working with clients/consumers with mental health issues and substance abuse issues for more than three years in her current position as a supervisor at the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission. She has a passion for serving and loving on people to insure and motivate them to achieve their goals and to realize they are valued and have a great potential for greatness.

Children with mental health issues and Substance abuse, as well as work with with families.

 

Sue Kohl, MA, LLP

Education

Sue has a Master's Degree in Counseling Education/Counseling Psychology from Western Michigan University. She is also a Certified Addictions Counselor.

Experience

Sue has over 25 years of working in a variety of substance abuse and mental health settings. 

Specialty

Trauma informed therapy with clients suffering from addictions and mental health issues. Substance abuse, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, grief and loss. Michigan Driver's License reinstatement, domestic violence.

 
Melanie  Lockett, LLMSW

Education

Melanie graduated from Western Michigan University with both her graduate degree in Social work and her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education. She has a Master's Degree in Teaching and Behavior Management from Marygrove College in Detroit and is a Limited Licensed Master's Social Worker (LLMSW).

Experience

She has experience working with diverse clients, providing brief interventions and referrals for additional or extended services. Melanie has served as an elementary educator for Kalamazoo Public Schools for 19 years.

Calvin Ruff, MSW, LLMSW

Calvin completed undergraduate studies in Psychology at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He has earned a Master of Social Work degree from Western Michigan University.

Calvin has 25 years of experience providing a variety of individual and group mental health services at the local and international level. His firm commitment to the values of mutual respect, human dignity, and loving kindness serve as a strong foundation for his integrated clinical and holistic approaches to Wellness for adults, adolescents, and families.

David Thomas, MA, LLPC, NCC

Education

David received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Toledo. He has a Master's Degree from Spring Arbor University in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

Experience

David has worked in several areas in the field of Public Safety which has given him a vast amount of training and experience in crisis intervention and helping persons exposed to traumatic evens. He affirms a trusting client-counselor relationship as the foundation for therapy, clarity of value, behavior change and emotional wellness.

Collaborative and responsive counseling dedicated toward the unique experiences people have while providing evidence-based practices such as Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

Shacara Burrel, LLMSW

Education

Shacara completed her undergraduate studies at Western Michigan University receiving a BA in Family Studies. As a dually enrolled student, she has earned a master's degree in Social Work from Western Michigan University and is currently completing her Juris Doctor degree from WMU Thomas Cooley Law School.

Experience

Shacara's experience includes fields of early childhood education, parent education along with perinatal grief and loss to individuals and groups. She also has experience working with disadvantaged youth and adolescence in alternative schools, the Kalamazoo county jail, probation and parole systems. From a holistic perspective she is committed to using relatability in building relationships which help clients feel comfortable, protected, motivated and empowered. Her positive message of justice and fairness not only encourages active open communication, but sets the groundwork for achieving the best possible outcomes.

Interns

Gabby Henriksen
She is a senior at Albion College, from Royal Oak, MI, and is majoring in Psychology and English. Henriksen is currently working on her thesis on the mediators and moderators of the relationship between helicopter parenting and attitudes towards drug/alcohol use on campus. She plans on going on to graduate school after she graduates to get her MSW, specializing in addiction studies. 

Morgan Armstrong

She is a junior at Albion College majoring in psychology and human services. Armstrong is passionate about mental health and spends her free time involved in campus organizations dedicated to the wellness and health of underrepresented students. She is currently conducting research in applying human rights frameworks on school campuses.
